MS/ Metal Halide Bulbs
We recommend replacing MS/ metal halide bulbs at least once
every year of growing time. After a year of growing time your
metal halide bulbs are only putting out half as much light as
new bulbs will. Your eye will not notice it, but you will see
a difference in how your plants grow after replacing your old
bulb.
MS
bulbs are enhanced metal halide bulbs. MS bulbs offer a boosted
red spectrum and increased lumen output from your metal halide
grow light system. These bulbs are designed to be used in most
metal halide systems made in the last 10 years.
These are position orientated bulbs, and may not fit into your
current socket if you have an older grow light system. To check
to see if you can use one of these bulbs, look into the socket
of your system. Inside the ceramic part of the socket there
is a metal piece that the bulb screws into. If there is a backwards
c shaped notch in the first thread on the top of this metal
piece, you can use an MS bulb. The notch is for a positioning
tab on the base of the bulb. When you screw in the bulb, the
positioning tab on the base will fit into the notch, properly
aligning the bulb. If you do not have this notch in your socket,
the bulb will not fit.
If
you find you do not have the correct socket to use these bulbs
we do have MS sockets available. These will allow you to use
MS bulbs in your metal halide grow light*.
*If you have ANY doubts about your ability to
change the socket on your HID/ metal halide system yourself,
arrange to have a qualified electrician do the swap. We are
in no way responsible if you injure yourself. HID lights have
high electrical output and can cause injury or death
to you or start a fire if not properly wired.
